AirAsia Japan Co., a low-cost carrier based in Chubu Centrair International Airport near Nagoya, formally announced Monday that it will cease operations.
The cessation was reported to the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry the same day, saying all four of its routes will be abolished on Dec. 5.
The move comes as the number of passengers has decreased significantly due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection in Japan and elsewhere.
This is the first time for a Japanese airline to withdraw from the business due to the impact of the pandemic.
